AquaSport Cat Hull needs Speed

Hey Randy,

I ran across your site and found a lot of interesting information.  Although I am not a racer I am interested in ways to increase the speed of my boat.  It is a 16' AquaSport cat hull with a 2003 Merc 90.  The prop is a Stilletto 19p I believe.  Currently I get just about 30 mph at 5400 rpms and would like to get in the upper 30's or, if possible, 40+.  I know that increasing the rpms is one way but I don't know a whole lot about outboard engines!!  What are your recommendations?

Thanks, Patrick

Unfortunately to get you to the 40 mph mark would probably take a 135 hp engine. There just is no cost effective way to gain that much performance. Unless you lightened the boat up a few hundred pounds (like 4-500 lbs.) Cat hulls love horsepower they like it in excess.
