Baja/Merc 150 Prop

Hello,
I have a 1984 Baja sun sport 18' with a 83/84 150 blackmax ,electric Holley fuel pump, Boyesen Reeds, and (16) 3/8 hole drill for exhaust with a 24p prop. Iím new to this boat but feel it should run a lot faster. From a stand still to WOT rpms are about 6500/6800 planes fast and drops to about 5200 and maxs out at 6000 at 57MPH fully trimmed with two people in the boat I have had it to 60 MPH by myself but that's all she gets. I don't know if anything has been done to motor other than what is noted above or the lower unit.  The prop has a lot of # stamped on it as follows (48 75772a4 ,  355T , 24P, 612553sn). Most of the time I do not go full throttle at take off because itís not needed and seems like Iím spinning my wheels, but no top end.  My guess is my prop needs more bite but I max out at 6000 RPM. What prop would you think? And how fast could I expect to run without hurting plane, or is it a prop that's needed.

Michael,

Have some leading edge roll put in the 24 chopper that you have. This will lock it up on acceleration and get rid of those ills. A 22 or 24 trophy plus would be better overall for your boat. Better low and probably a little better top end because it would carry the boat better.
