Stuttering '84 Evinrude 115 V4
Hi, my name is Tawrence. I recently purchased this boat with the 115, and the first time I took it out a problem occurred. I would put the throttle all the way down (full speed) but it wouldn't pick up speed. I left it down to see what it would do, and all of a sudden it just took off like it was fine. Then about 2 mins. later it just died out. It would only die when I go full throttle. It did this off and on, I never knew when it was going to go full speed, but I could hear the engine jerking like it wanted to go faster every now and then. When I got home I noticed one of the coils wasn't firing so I changed it. The next time it ran a little better but still wouldn't get full throttle (sometimes). What could this be, bad gas, compression, or etc? Maybe you can help me. Oh yeah I recently cleaned the carb and noticed that the lower one seemed to have bad gas in it, maybe that's the problem. Any advice would help me.
like a bad spark plug cutting in and out. The power pack (there are 2 on
this motor) will do the same symptom. Almost feels like turning a switch
on and off. I would bet the power pack that fires the bad coil is having
some issues and needs to be changed. That would be my first guess anyway.
