Prop Selection for Hustler

Hi Randy, My name is Brian Krause from Winona, Minnesota. I recently joined the Hydrostream Registry. I currently am running a 1990 12'2" Hustler with a 1977 Merc 70hp 3 cyl. I am also running with a 6" Springfield manual jackplate. I cannot find any props as Iím currently running a 15'' pitch powertech prop but am running 6500 rpm's plus a little more, when I'd like to be between 5500 and 5700 rpm's. I tried talking to some dealers around my home but I didn't get very good answers. This is a hard combination to figure out but you seem to be the man to know, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. PS:I need help bad!!!  Thanks again      Brian Krause of Winona Minnesota

Brian,

We ran a hustler with a 75 hp Johnson short shaft in the late 80's. It worked pretty good. Merc makes a 10 1/2 x 18" chopper for your motor. If you put a little roll in the leading edge for acceleration, it worked the best. Our little craft went near 70 mph, but was a handful.
