Valero Setup

I have a 88' Valero and was reading your articles on set back. What is the proper way to set the propeller depth? Do you level the pad and then the motor or do you set the boat at the angle it rides and then level the motor? I know you say that 1 1/4" below the pad is best. I have a 2.4L EFI o/s on the back and have 5 1/2" of set back. Is that enuff or do I need more? Thanks for any help.

I'm assuming you have a YT hull, not a V-Bottom. Trim the motor parallel to the hull bottom. With the straight edge, line up the propshaft centerline and position it 1" - 1 1/4" below the pad. This will give you the best overall performance. 5 1/2" of setback is good for your power supply. You'd need less with more power and more if you carry a lot of weight in the front seat (big passengers).
