Vector/Merc 115 Prop & Ski Pylon
I just purchased a 1976 vector with a 1978 115 mercury outboard (5500 rpm
redline). The boat has power trim and the rear seats are now facing
forward against stern area where the fuel tank and battery are. I
was wondering if you could recommend a good ski pylon and where I might
purchase it. I feel like I have seen pictures of vectors with pylons
that were located towards the center of the seating area with the supports
leaning back and out towards the wings. I do some slalom skiing but
hope to primarily barefoot off this boat. Would you also recommend a
good prop for this? Typically barefooting is in the 40mph range.
Finally, if you have any thoughts on what prop would get this boat to
70mph, I would love to have a second prop just for speed.
Any good ski pylon works (tri pod type ) and can be bought from most any
local marine dealer. Overton's and such also carry them. To ski you'll
need a small pitch prop like a 19 aluminum or something thereabouts.
Just watch the top rpm. For top end use a 22 or 24 small blade chopper
or even a Yamaha drag prop of the same pitch if you can find one. Search
around the net you should find one reasonable.
