just purchased a Ventura with a 62 Merc 1000. I bought the boat
sight unseen. I'm told the boat has no HIN, is this possible?
It is registered as a 1970 model Ventura. My question: The
boat color is original gold/yellow metal flake. I'm not sure
this boat is even a 1970 model as I did not see this color available for
that year (see attached pictures). Any way to identify this hull?
the old 1000 worth putting time and money into? When running
properly any idea how the 1000 will push the Ventura hull?
Hopefully the motor runs and the gearcase is ok. If not, the cost of just minor repairs exceeds the value of the motor easily. If you can find someone with a lot of used in-line parts and befriend him, you may have a cheap outlet for repair parts. Some of the older Hydros had the serial # glassed under the front deck. Look for bold black letters through the glass. You may have to scrub under the deck to read them if they are there. Another place is under the splash well. The numbers were put there to match the deck to the hull during the building process. The picture you sent suggests a ' 70ish model. Try to find an in-line connoisseur and hook up with him. You'll have fun.Randy
