Viper/Merc 115 Prop

Randy: Hi. I have a 1974 Viper that I got as a basket case. I now have it on the water and started to experiment with props. I am pretty much a novice.  I put a Merc 115 inline on it with power trim. I tried a 19 pitch and that has a good hole shot but tops out at 45 mph. I borrowed a 23 from a friend and it just won't pull it. Dog out of the hole and straining for 35mph!  I would spend some good $ on the right prop but I don't know what is best. Is there an "ideal" prop you would know of for my application? It would sure help me out. Thanks very much!  Terry Purvis     Central WI

Try to locate a used 20 or 22 pitch laser II or Hi five. Both of these will work well for your Viper. Speed will be 55 - 60 and the fun factor will increase. Used props like that are 200 - 250 usually. The stainless props will work much better than the aluminum ones you tried.
