Viper Prop

Randy I need some advice on a prop for my 1979 viper with a 1979 mercury 115 hp. The boat with a 12.5diameter  23 pitch prop ran about 47 mph but did not have the blow out ring on. I sent the prop in to be fixed. I am told to get a bigger prop. Can you help me?

Thank You,

 Paul

Paul,

On your boat I would prefer to run one of the new stainless propellers.  I would start with probably a 22 pitch Mercury Laser 2.  This prop is of much better design than your old one, and the boat should run upwards of 10 MPH faster.  This prop did not exist back when your boat was made, but I think the combination would be very good.  It has more diameter and more progressive pitch so it will lock up harder than your old 23.  Give it a try.
