Yamaha vs Mercury

Your opinion is welcome. I am considering buying a 1998 Yamaha V4 115 hp 2-stroke outboard (to push an 18foot fiberglass skiff), but wonder how the Yamaha compares with a Mercury of similar horsepower. Any info appreciated. Thank you. Jay

As much as I like Merc's, the 115 Inline 4 cylinder is not my favorite. The Yamaha 115 is a tried & true excellent runner. I know of no better 115 two stroke. The Merc has crank problems if revved to 5600 plus rpm and the 2 + 2 idle basically sucks. Go with the V-4 - you won't be disappointed.
